Eighth edition of Ladakh Marathon held in Leh

The eighth edition of Ladakh Marathon was held today, in Leh . It is the highest marathon in the world as it is held at over 11, 000 feet above the mean sea level.

The Marathon was held in the  categories of 42KM Full Full Marathon, 21KM half marathon and 7 km long Run for Fun. The toughest 72 km Khardungla Challenge was completed on 6th September. More than 6000 runners have participated in four categories of Ladakh Marathon. The Leh town has turned into festive mood with participants from various parts of the globe present for running in the marathon. Runners cheering each other in the one of the toughest marathon in the world has lifted the spirt of sportsmanship. With participation of marathoners from 25 countries, Ladakh Marathon has gained popularity in the world of racing.

The 9th Edition to be held in 2020 will be a qualifying race for the Abbot World Marathon Majors. AIR correspondent reports that Cheif Executive Councilor of LAHDC , Leh Gyal Phunchok Wangyal and Additional District Development Commissioner Mozes Kunzang Jointly flag off the full marathon. The half marathon was flag off by the JK Director General of Police Dilbag Singh. While, Lt Genl YK Joshi , GoC of 14 Corp of Indian Army has flag off the 7 km long Run for Fun. Senior officials of government, Indian Army and Para Military also participated in different races.
