Eighth Asia- Europe Summit begins in Brussels today

Vice President M Hamid Ansari will hold bilateral discussions with leaders of a few partner countries in the 8th edition of the Asia-Europe Summit which will be formally declared open this evening in Brussels. With terrorism high on its agenda, India will also explore ways to strengthen multi-lateral trade and economic ties with the partner countries. The Vice President will be meeting the President of the European Council Mr Herman Van Rompuy within a shortwhile from now. He will later hold bilateral discussions with the Prime Minister of Finland, Ms Marie Kavaniem and the Latvian President Valdis Satlers. The Vice President will also meet the Malaysian Prime Minister Dato Sri Najib bin Tun Abdul later this evening. AIR Correspondent Raj Mohan covering the Summit reports that police have put up barbed barricades on all roads leading to the meeting venue and have stepped up security measures following intelligence warning about a possible attack in Europe by terrorist groups.
