In China, eight miners have been trapped in a flooded coal mine in the south west of the country. The state owned Xinhua news agency reports that, forty-five miners were working underground when the coal mine in Guizhou province flooded on Sunday evening. It said most of the workers scrambled to safety, leaving eight miners trapped adding that rescuers were frantically trying to pump out water. Chinese officials say a total of 2,433 people died in coal mine accidents in the country in 2010.
