Eight people met with watery grave in the Thungabhadra river in Karnataka this afternoon. A group who had come from Hubli and Gadag districts to immerse the remains of their dead relative were alarmed when one of them accidentally fell into the river which was in spate. In a bid to rescue him, seven of group dived into the river. But unable to swim in the strong current, they were all sucked and dragged on by the river. There were two women among those who dived and drowned in this gruesome accident. The Huvinahadagali police are investigating the case and fire service personnel are pressed into service to locate the missing bodies of these eight people.
