Eight new rail corridors to have 160-200 km per hour speed: Prabhu

Indian Raiways has identified eight new corridors for increasing the speed of passenger trains to 160 and 200 kilometers per hour. Replying to supplementries in the Lok Sabha, Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu said the corridors includes Delhi-Chandigarh, Delhi-Kanpur, Mumbai-Goa, Mumbai-Ahmedabad and Chennai-Hyderabad. He said the feasibility and implementation study for Delhi-Chandigarh corridor to raise the speed of passenger train to 200 kilometers per hour is being carried out.<br/><br/>The Minister said, for other corridors, the technical inputs required for upgradation of speed of trains to 160 kilometers per hour have also been identified. He said, the technology which will be used for operating the bullet trains will be beneficial for revamping rail networks in the country.
