Eight killed, 14 injured in Afghanistan suicide bomb attack

In Afghanistan, eight people were killed and 14 others injured when a roadside bomb struck a civilian mini-bus in Paktia province while another person was killed in a suicide bomb attack outside a US military base in eastern Khost province today. Deputy provincial police chief of Paktia, Ghulam Dastgir Khan said that the roadside bomb explosion took place in Zurmat district late yesterday, killing eight passengers including women and children and injuring 14 others, some of them critically. Taliban militants often plant roadside bombs to target foreign and Afghan forces but civilians are increasingly becoming the victims. Meanwhile, one person died and two were wounded in a suicide bomb attack early today outside the NATO base in eastern Afghanistan. The car bomber targeted NATO's Forward Operating Base Chapman in the eastern province of Khost, near the border with Pakistan's tribal belt. The base has come under attack in the past including one which killed seven CIA officials in December.
