In Assam , eight extremists belonging to Hrangkhal tribe of Dima Hasao District have surrendered with arms to the security forces following disillusioned with jungle life. According to official sources, eight members of extremist outfit belonging to Halom National Liberation Army (HNLA) surrendered on Saturday at Haflong and deposited one AK-47 rifle, one semi-automatic 7.62 rifle, a 303 rifle, two Chinese made grenades and 20 round ammunition to Brigadier AK Chhapra of Army’s 44 Mountain, Additional Superintendent of Assam Police, Amitabh Sinha and Commander of 45 Assam Rifles, BB Yadav. The group was led by the outfit’s self-styled captain Rengchamjem Hrangkhol alias James. Sources add that at least 22 Hrangkhol youths of Dima Hasao district were picked up by an extremist group belonging to same tribe from Tripura later they were taken to neighbouring Tamenlong district of Manipur for training. After two months of training they were shifted to Tripura. But these eight extremists could not cope up with the jungle life and returned to Dima Hasao district and surrendered to security forces.
