Eid-ul-Fitr was celeberated with religious fervour and traditional gaity across the contry today. Mosques and
idgahs overflowed with the devotees offering special prayers, handing out alms and exchanging gifts and greetings.
In the capital, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and his wife Gursharan Kaur drove to the residence of Vice President Hamid Ansari to greet him. People dressed in their festive best offered prayers at Jama Masjid, Fathepuri Masjid, Hazrat Nizamuddin and other mosques in the city.
In Jammu and Kasmir , Eid-ul-Fitar was celebrated cross the state woth thousands of people thronging Eid-Gahs and masjids to offer special Eid prayers. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and his father and Union Minister for Farooq Abdullah offered prayers at the Hazratbal Shrine, where more than 7,000 people had congregated.
In violence-hit Assam, celebrations passed off peacefully amid tight security. Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi hoped that Eid will bring lasting peace and amity in the state.
In Uttar Pradesh, thousands of devotees prayes at several Mosques, Eidgah and shrines. Our Allahabad correspondent reports renowned and historical mosques were decorated to tase for the occassion. In Lucknow Governor BL Joshi, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and leaders from different political parties visited Eidgah and extended their Eid greetings to devotees.
In Andhra Pradesh, Id-Ul-Fitr was celebrated with Muslims across the State attending Mass prayers. In Hyderabad, hundreds of devout Muslims dressed in their best attended the special prayer at Mecca Masjid near the historic Charminar.
Marking the end of month-long fasting for Ramzan, lakhs of Muslim devotees across the state offered Namaz-e-Eid at decorated Masjids, Idgahs and open grounds. Wearing new clothes and skull caps, men and children offered prayers as Eid celebrated with traditional fervour in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad. The biggest congregation in the state capital was at the historic Miralam Eidgah, where over three lakh people bowed their heads during the special prayers.Scores of thousands of devotees attended prayers at the historic Mecca Masjid near Charminar.
Special 'duas' for the Muslims of Assam and Myanmar marked the namaz this time. The imams who led the prayers urged devotees to come forward to help their brethren who were living in miserable conditions in the relief camps. The cheerful calls of “Id Mubarak” filled the air as the devotees were greeting and embracing each other out side the Mosques and Eid-gharhs.
The devout thronged the mosques and Idgahs also at several towns included Nizamabad, Adilabad, Karimnagar, Kurnool, Guntur, Vijayawada, Kadapa and other. The celebrations continued till this evening, as friends and relatives dropped by to exchange gifts and greetings.
