Eid-Ul-Fitr being celebrated across the country

The festival of Eid-ul-Fitr is being celebrated across the nation today with traditional fervour and gaiety. The day culminates the fasting month of Ramzan. In the Capital, thousands of devotees thronged the mosques for prayers and hugged each other as an expression of brotherhood.

Large gatherings were witnessed for morning prayers at Jama Masjid and Fatehpuri Masjid and people, dressed in their festive best, visited the houses of their friends and relatives and offered gifts.

AIR Correspondent reports that nearly two lakh people attended the prayers at Fatehpuri Masjid and an equal number offered prayers at Jama Masjid. Elaborate security arrangements have been made for peaceful celebration of the festival.

President Pranab Mukherjee, Vice President Mohammad Hamid Ansari and Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh have greeted the nation on the occasion.

In Assam, people in large number took part in prayers on Id-Ul-Fitr. AIR Correspondent reports that special arrangements have been made in relief camps so that the inmates can celebrate the holy Eid with religious fervour.

AIR correspondent reports, despite rain, thousands of people thronged different Eidgahs to offer special Eid prayers.In Andhra Pradesh, Muslims across the State have attended the Mass prayer meetings held in the morning.

In Hyderabad, hundreds of devout Muslims dressed in their best attire, attended the special prayer at Mecca Masjid near the historic Charminar.

Prayers, feasts and mutual exchange of Id greetings marked the celebrations in the twin cites of Hyderabad and Secundrabad.
