Eid-ul-Azha was celebrated across the country on Saturday with traditional fervour and gaiety. Tens of thousands of Muslims thronged mosques to offer prayers. Muslims rededicated themselves to Islamic tenets of love and piety to mark the Festival of Sacrifice which commemorates the willingness of Ibrahim to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to God.

In the national capital, the faithful assembled for prayers at Jama Masjid and Fatehpuri Masjid as young and old alike, dressed in their festive best, visited the houses of their relatives exchanging gifts.

In Jammu and Kashmir, people of all cast and communities were seen greeting their Muslim brethren at several places outside Idgahs and Masjids.

In border district Poonch, Army Officials from India and Pakistan exchanged greetings with each other at Chakan Da Bagh border check point on Indo-Pak border.

President Mr Pranab Mukherjee, Vice-President Mohd. Hamid Ansari and Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh have greeted the nation on the occasion saying the festival epitomises the noble values of sacrifice, trust and forgiveness.

On the occasion of Eidul- Azha, special Eid prayers were organised at various mosques, shrines and Eidgahs of Delhi.

Dressed in new clothes, devotees on Saturday thronged at religious places to offer Eid prayers.

The biggest congregations were held at the Jama Masjid and Shahi Masjid in the city.

People of other communities also joined the celebration and greeted their muslim brethren.

Delhi Police had made elaborate security arrangements to prevent any untoward incident on this occasion.
