Eid-ul-Azha was celebrated with gaiety and religious fever across the country today. Tens of thousands of faithful flocked to mosques to offer prayers as the spirit of brotherhood marked the festival.In the national capital a large number of people offered Eid prayers at Jamia Masjid and FathehPuri Mosque. Old Delhi markets witnessed a huge rush of visitors as people thronged bakery shops and meat shops while children attired in colourful dresses asked for 'Eidi' from their relatives.AIR correspondent reports that the markets in the Old Delhi area were tastefully decorated and the entire area weared a a festive look. Scenes of communal amity and brotherhood were seen outside the Mosques and Idgahs where Hindus, Sikhs and people of other religions greeted their Muslim brothern on this holy festival. In Uttar Pradesh, Eid ul Azha was celebrated with religious enthusiasm and devotion throughout the state. Huge rushes were seen in all main mosques and edge in morning in different districts. Strict security arrangements have also been made on this in the state.In Andhra Pradesh, Gaiety and fervour marked the Bakrid celebrations across the state today. Thousands of devotees congregated at Idgahs and Mosques to offer special prayers in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secundrabad. Large congregations were also seen at the Idgahs in other parts of the state.In Jammu and Kashmir, the Indian and Pakistani armies today exchanged Eid-ul-Azha greetings and gifts along the Line of Control in Poonch district. AIR Jammu correspondent reports that the Indian troops headed by Col. V.P.Cristopher and the Pakistani troops Headed by Col. Omar held a meeting at Chakkan da Bagh and wished for the peace and prosperity of each other’s countries.In the Kashmir valley, protesters at some places clashed with with police who used force to restore calm.In Kerala, Imams, in their addresses, said extremists and fundamentalist trends posed a danger to humanity and urged the faithful to guard against them by following principles of love, compassion and kindness as preached by Islam.The President, the Vice-President, the Prime Minister and a host of leaders greeted the countrymen on the occasion.
