The Cairo Criminal Court sentenced former minister of tourism Zohair Garana to 5 years in prison. According to Egyptian media Al Ahram, Garana was found guilty of corruption and violation of auction laws in buying land in the resort area of Ain Sohkna. Garana is the second former high-ranking official of ex-President Hosni Mubarak's regime to be convicted of corruption since Mubarak's ouster. Meanwhile former president Hosni Mubarak was remanded in custody for another 15 days. Mubarak has been in the hospital since he suffered a minor heart attack while being questioned on 12 April.
