Egypt has urged the United Nation Security Council to launch a comprehensive investigation into the allegation that Qatar paid up to one billion US dollars to a terrorist group active in Iraq to release the kidnapped members of its royal family. <br/><br/>UAE's official news agency quoting a senior Egyptian UN diplomat said, the violation of the Security Council resolutions, if proved correct, shall definitely have a negative bearing on counter-terrorism efforts on the ground.<br/>UN Security Council resolutions call on states to prevent terrorists from benefiting directly or indirectly from ransom payments or from political concessions and to secure the safe release of hostages.<br/>Qatar has denied paying any ransom money for securing the release of 26 Qatar nationals which allegedly included members of the royal family.
