Egypt will hold its first parliamentary election since the February ouster of president Hosni Mubarak in three phases from November 21. The state-owned Al-Ahram newspaper, in the first edition of its Sunday issue, quoted the head of the electoral committee Abdel Muiz Ibrahim as saying a senate election will follow on January 22. It quoted him as saying a proposed timetable is in place for parliamentary and senate elections, with the first stage of parliamentary elections starting on November 21. He said the election, which will be held over three stages, will end on January 3. But the ruling military, which took power after the popular overthrow of Mubarak, has yet to confirm the dates.
