In Egypt, protesters have stormed the headquarters of the secret police in Cairo, demanding that the organisation be dismantled. It followed rumours that officials were destroying documents that could be used in court to prove human rights abuses. The protesters have been demanding abolition of the force since the ouster of Hosni Mubarak as president last month. Egypt's State Security Investigations, which is reported to have about one lakh employees and a large network of informers, is widely accused of human rights abuses, including torture of detainees.
