A month after clearing the draft food security bill, the Empwered Group of Ministers, EGoM, on food headed by Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee will meet again on Monday to consider changes in the proposed legislation. Sources said, raising the entitlement of rice or wheat from the 25 kg per month to BPL families is among the changes proposed.

The Bill, already cleared by the EGoM and supposed to be taken to the Cabinet, provides for mandatory provision of 25 kg of rice or wheat per month to BPL families at 3 rupees per kg, as promised in the Congress' poll manifesto. The meeting is being held amid speculation that the UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi wanted these changes to be incorporated in the draft bill.
