Empowered Group of Ministers (EGOM) on food will meet in Delhi this evening. The EGoM headed by the Finance Minister Mr Pranab Mukherjee will discuss various issues related to foodgrain stock in the country. It is also likely to consider the Supreme Court’s direction to the Centre to consider free supply of food grains to the poor instead of allowing it to rot in FCI godowns. The apex court had clarified on Wednesday that its direction to the centre was an order not a mere suggestion. The agriculture Minister Mr Sharad Pawar told parliament that the government will honour the decision of the Supreme Court's order. He had earlier said that reports on foodgrain rotting in godowns were quite exaggerated.
