EGoM on Telecom defers decision on reserved price till July 20

The Empowered Group of Ministers (EGoM) on Telecom today deferred till Friday the decision on reserved price. However, on roll-out obligations, the EGoM cleared the proposal

making it mandatory for operators, who will receive spectrum through auction, to cover 10 per cent of Block Headquarters in three years, 20 per cent in four years and 30 per cent in five years. For old operators, roll-out obligations would remain as per their licencing conditions, but the new clause will apply on them if they win spectrum in auction. It also asked the Department of Telecom to prepare a matrix of reserve price of spectrum auction and its impact on tariffs and revenue to the government.
Talking to reporters following the first ever reconstituted EGoM headed by Home Minister P. Chidambaram, the HRD minister Kapil Sibal said that the discussions are continuing and a final view will be taken after completing the discussions.
