A panel of ministers deferred a decision on raising fuel prices due to a lack of quorum. But the Empowered Group of Ministers (EGoM) , discussed the impact on freeing petrol and diesel prices from government control on inflation. <br/><br/>Freeing petrol and diesel prices would mean hike in rates of these fuels. Oil Secretary S Sundareshan said after the meeting that no decision was taken in the meeting and another round will be held soon to thrash out the issue. The meeting was chaired by the Finance Minister Mr. Pranab Mukherjee. <br/><br/>Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia, Fertiliser Minister M K Alagiri, Oil Minister Murli Deora and Cabinet Secretary K M Chandrasekhar were present in the meeting .Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee, Agriculture and Food Minister Sharad Pawar, Road Transport Minister Kamal Nath and Power Minister Sushilkumar Shinde Could not attend. <br/><br/>AIR correspondent quoting official sources reports that the Oil Ministry made a presentation to the eGoM on the recommendations of the Kirit Parikh Committee that suggested freeing fuel prices from government control. Earlier some UPA constituents including the NCP and Trinamul Congress had voiced their opposition to the oil price hike.<br/>
