Efforts will be made to complete dedicated freight corridor till 2019: Suresh Prabhu

Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu said efforts will be made to complete the dedicated freight corridor till 2019. Replying to supplementaries during the Question Hour in the Rajya Sabha, he said that the government has put this World Bank finance project in fast track mode. <br/><br/>Tenders worth 24 thousand crore rupees have already been given and cases regarding land acquisition have been solved. Mr. Prabhu said that the railways earn its two-third revenue from freight. It is trying to diversify its freight basket as ten major commodities are main source of revenue as of now. <br/><br/>The minister said that private trade terminals are also being encouraged. He informed railways achieved freight loading of 90.02 Million Tonnes during the month of February this year. In a reply to another question, Mr. Prabhu said that the government will double the electrification of railway lines in the next five years.
