Efforts underway to launch talks with Bahrain opposition

In Bahrain, large numbers of people are camping at Pearl Square amid reports that efforts are underway to launch talks with the opposition, which is demanding major political reforms. According to Bahrain’s official news agency, Crown Prince Salman told in a statement that due to steps taken in the last few days situation has been calmed which has also helped restore life in Bahrain to normal in preparation for dialogue. ‘In Yemen, large numbers of protesters gathered into the centre of capital Sanaa today for a massive anti-regime rally called by the opposition. Students and pro-democracy demonstrators have been camped to a square near Sanaa University for more than a week.Protestors are asking President Saleh to step down who is in power for more than 32 years. Meanwhile in a press conference in Sanaa, President Saleh has accused the United States and Israel of trying to destabilize his country and the Arab world. ‘In Iran, confusion prevails over opposition leaders whereabouts as website of Iranian opposition leader Mehdi Karroubi has reported that Mir Hossein Mousavi and Mehdi Karroubi have been put under house arrest. However Iran’s Fars news agency reports that a source has denied the arrest of Mousavi and Karroubi adding that the pair were at home and not in prison. Authorities have warned supporters of the opposition movement to refrain from holding protests aimed at demanding the release of their leaders.’In Egypt, former president Hosni Mubarak and his family have been banned from leaving Egypt and their assets have been frozen. Egypt's official media Al Ahram reported that the prosecutor General Abdel Meguid Mahmoud has announced this. Al ahram quoting military sources has reported that that the former president's son, Gamal Mubarak, tried to leave the country on a private jet yesterday. He was thwarted from doing so by the military. The criminal charges are also being brought by the court against Mubarak's family.
