Efforts on to release four policemen from naxal captivity in Chhattisgarh

In Chhattisgarh, efforts are on for the safe release of the four policemen from naxal captivity. It may be mentioned here that naxalites had abducted 7 policemen form near Bhadrakali under Bijapur district about a week ago. They had subsequently killed three of them. The rest four jawans are said to be in their captivity since. The captives include one ASI.According to media reports, the naxalites, last evening, have given a 48- hours ultimatum to the government to consider some of their demands in this connection.While the state police has been doing what it can do for the safe passage of the abducted policemen, the event has started wearing a political undertone as well. Stating that the naxal issue should not be viewed just as a law and order problem, the CPI national secretary Mr. D. Raja has appealed to the naxalites for the release of the four jawans. He was talking to reporters in Raipur on Monday afternoon. Similarly, the former chief minister of the state Mr. Ajit Jogi has also appealed to the naxal leadership to release the jawans at the earliest.In a press release in Raipur, Mr. Jogi has also appealed the chief minister Dr. Raman Singh to take necessary steps in this regard. Meanwhile, Congress workers in Raipur on Monday burnt the effigy of the government in protest against the delay in the release of the abducted policemen.
