Efforts must be made to stop atrocities against dalits: Naidu

Minister for Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation M Venkaiah Naidu has said that discrimination and atrocities against dalits is a major social challenge and efforts must be made to stop it instead of scoring political points. <br/><br/>Speaking at a function after felicitating Civil services topper Tina Dabi in New Delhi today, Mr Naidu said, successive governments since independence have introduced many developmental and welfare programmes and reservation for economic empowerment of dalits but nothing has been done for their social advancement. <br/><br/>The Minister stressed on the need for social cohesion through political will, administrative skill and social harmony. He said, IAS officers can play a key role in realizing the the mission of nation building. He said, the success story of Tina Dabi is the example of deep and complex social change in India that has made her the first ever Dalit girl to top the prestigious exam.
