Educational institutions open, colliery work resumes in strike hit Telangana

In Andhra Pradesh, educational institutions including professional colleges have re-opened today in the Telangana region with teachers joining duties after a 35-day strike. Following an agreement with the State Government late last evening to resolve their issues, the Telangana Teachers Joint Action Committee has pulled off from the ongoing General Strike for statehood for Telangana. About 1.5 lakh teachers in the region started attending classes this morning. The teachers assured that the classes lost due to the strike would be covered during the holidays. Meanwhile, work in the mines of Singareni Collieries in Telangana region resumed with employees attending duties today. Coal production has been regaining normal pace in about 50 mines in four districts of the region. About 65,000 employees belonging to six trade unions agreed to defer the strike indefinitely yesterday. Meanwhile, the ongoing General Strike by State Government employees continued to affect the functioning of the administration for the 36th day today.
