The Education Tribunal Bill has been introduced in the Rajya Sabha. Moving the Bill in the House, the Human Resource Development Minister Mr. Kapil Sibal said that the objective of the Bill is to set up Education Tribunals at the National and the State level for speedy resolution of matters relating to disputes in higher institutes of Education. Mr. Sibal said that the gross enrolment ratio in the country will increase from 12 per cent to 30 per cent in the higher education by 2020. The statement of the objective of the Bill says that the State Tribunal Bill will decide issues concerning teachers, employees and students of these institutions in the respective states. The National Tribunal will deal with the issues concerning regulatory bodies in higher education and also matters involving institutes located in more than one state. The Bill also provides for imprisonment up to three years or fine of ten lakh rupees or both who fail to comply with the orders of the Tribunals. The Lok Sabha passed the Bill on last Friday.
