Educating youth about peace, harmony key to contain disruptive forces: Prez

President Pranab Mukherjee has said that education in peace and harmony is the key to contain and reorient the disruptive forces in society. Addressing the 62nd convocation ceremony of Gujarat Vidhyapeeth at Ahmedabad, he said that Mahatma Gandhi had struggled for communal harmony during his entire life. <br/><br/>Referring to the motto of Gujarat Vidhyapeeth- founded by Mahatma Gandhi- "Sa Vidya Ya Vimuktaye" or "Education that Liberates", he said that the studentsare not only learning Gandhian thought, but are also provided exposure to world religions. This institute should continue to demonstrate that social rejuvenation through non-violence is possible by educating the heart and mind of youth. <br/><br/>President said that students of Gujarat Vidyapith are trained to support rural development in line with Gandhiji's vision. They keep the campus clean through their own labour. He expressed happiness that Gujarat Vidyapith educates students in charkha and computer with equal enthusiasm and students are imbibed with the spirit of 'dignity of labour'. <br/><br/>President said that, according to Mahatma Gandhi, Swachh Bharat implied a clean mind, clean body and clean environment. Every citizen has a duty to create a clean external and internal environment of self and society to make Swachh Bharat possible.<br/><br/>Earlier today, President inaugurated the archival and research center at Sabarmati Gandhi Ashram in Ahmedabad. The center has taken up mammoth task to transcribe and publish over 8,500 letters received by Mahatma Gandhi. <br/><br/>President has also viewed the archival materials including letters and artifacts related to Mahatma Gandhi and a special presentation on digital archive. He also place cotton hank around the portraint of Mahatma Gandhi and signed visitors' book of Sabarmati Ashram. President also visited Hriday Kunj and plated an Imli tree in Sabarmati Ashram. President will inaugurate Beach Festival at Diu late this evening and also visit famous Somnath Temple and Dwarikadheesh Temple before his departure on tomorrow.
