The Editors Guild of India has urged all editors and journalists to take a pledge to act against any attempt to use advertising as news without proper disclosure. The Guild sent a letter to all editors as part of its campaign to stop the bad practice of paid news. In a statement in New Delhi, the Guild President Rajdeep Sardesai and its Secretary-General Coomi Kapoor said that the issue of paid news has generated wide- spread concern in recent weeks. They said, the Annual General Meeting of the Editors Guild felt strongly that the practice of putting out advertisement as news amounted to great journalistic malpractices. It also threatened the foundations of the media and of the journalistic profession by eroding public faith in the credibility and impartiality of news reporting.
