ED summons TMC candidate from Balurghat, Arpita Ghosh, in connection with Saradha scam

The Enforcement Directorate has summoned Arpita Ghosh,Trinamool Congress candidate from Balurghat, in connection with the investigation of the Saradha chitfund scam. Ghosh was associated with one of the television channels of the Saradha Group, and along with other employees of the channel in April last year had filed an FIR against the Group's chairman Sudipta Sen for non payment of salaries for two months after the Saradha bubble burst.

The ED's summon to Ghosh comes days after the agency nabbed Sudipta Sen's wife Piyali Sen and his son Subhajit in a money laundering case. Meanwhile, Subhajit's wife Priyanka was questioned by the ED yesterday in connection with the Saradha chitfund case.

The West Bengal Finance Minister Dr . Amit Mitra has termed the activism of the ED on probing the matter before ensuing polls as politically motivated. Dr. Mitra claimed that the investigation being carried out by the State has already yielded results.

The former state Chief Minster and CPIM leader Mr. Buddhadev Bhattacharjee demanded that the Trinamul Congress led Government should reply to the people on the scam in which thousands of people have lost everything. Opposition BJP has also demanded CBI probe on the scam.
