Aam Aadmi Party and Congress have demanded Punjab Revenue Minister Bikram Singh Majithia’s resignation following summons issued to him by the Enforcement Directorate in the 6000 crore rupees drug scam. Alleging that the Enforcement Directorate was stopped from examining Mr Majithia, the Aam Aadmi Party yesterday demanded his resignation to ensure a free and fair probe in the multi-crore drug racket in Punjab.
In a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, AAP leader H S Phoolka, demanded constitution of a Special Investigation Team, SIT to probe the drug menace. The party has also demanded a parallel inquiry by the CBI. Punjab State Congress has also demanded resignation of Majithia to ensure a fair probe in the case. State Congress President Pratap Singh Bajwa said in Chandigarh that Enforcement Directorate had summoned the Minister to probe the allegation against him and his resignation will be helpful for impartial probe.
Punjab BJP President Kamal Sharma said in Jalandhar that he also favours the Minister's resignation on moral ground. However, ruling party Shiromani Akali Dal Spokesman has said that mere summoning does not prove that Majithia is guilty so he cannot be asked for resignation. Mr. Majithia said that he will help the Enforcement Directorate to any probe. The ED is investigating the 6000 crore rupees of drug money sent to foreign countries. The allegations against Majithia were of aiding, abetting and facilitating the drug racket.
