ED officials question Puducherry Lt. Governor

The Puducherry Lt. Governor Iqbal Singh was questioned by officials of the Enforcement Directorate for over three and a half hours on Tuesday. He was quizzed by four officials on his reported link with Hasan Ali, who is presently in jail for money laundering and tax evasion. Mr Iqbal Singh as a Member of Parliament in 1997 had recommended issuance of passport to Hasan Ali. Mr. Iqbal Singh has stated that he had recommended Ali's name for getting a passport despite not knowing personally. The Secretary to the Lt. Governor, Mr Srinivasan said Mr Iqbal Singh had been questioned by the ED official in-camera and the investigations were video graphed. Meanwhile, Mr Iqbal Singh has left Chennai for New Delhi this morning. In a related development, the AIADMK-led opposition has called for a 12 hour bandh today in the union territory demanding the Centre recall to Lt. Governor Iqbal Singh.
