ED moves PMLA court seeking non-bailable arrest warrant against Zakir Naik

The enforcement Directorate on Monday moved an application in special PMLA court in Mumbai seeking issuance of non bailable warrant against the controversial Islamic preacher Zakir Naik. <br/>The enforcement directorate has requested Prevention of money Laundering court to issue non bailable warrant against Naik as he has not joined the investigation yet. The agency said that although Naik was served summons repeatedly, he has failed to appear before it. <br/><br/>It further said that Naik needed to be questioned in connection of money laundering and his absence delaying the probe. Special judge of PMLA court P R Bhavke is likely to start hearing on the plea from today.<br/><br/>The ED has registered a criminal case against Naik and others last December after taking cognizance of an NIA complaint under the unlawful activities prevention act.

ED moves PMLA court seeking non-bailable arrest warrant against Zakir Naik

The Enforcement Directorate has moved a special PMLA court in Mumbai, to issue a non- bailable warrant against controversial Islamic preacher Zakir Naik. Special Judge P R Bhavke of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, PMLA court is likely to start hearing ED's arguments from today.<br/>The ED has sought the non- bailable warrant on the grounds that the Naik has not joined the investigation so far and has failed to appear before it despite repeated summons. The central probe agency said Naik needed to be questioned in connection with money laundering.<br/><br/>The ED registered a criminal case against Naik last December after taking cognisance of an NIA complaint under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. He has also been booked under section153-A of IPC for promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion after some perpetrators of the Dhaka terror strike last year claimed they were inspired by Naik.
