Ecuador's president Correa returns to presidential palace

Ecuador's president Rafael Correa has returned to the presidential palace after being freed from a hospital where he was being held by rebel police opposed to government austerity measures. Mr. Correa told a group of supporters that he would fight for peace, justice and equity for Ecuador. The president had been taken to the National Police Hospital after a tear gas canister exploded near him when he was addressing the police in a nearby barracks. Earlier, local television showed scenes of shooting outside the hospital between the rebel and troops loyal to the government. Red Cross said, two policemen have been killed during the rescue operation and 74 people were reportedly injured in the unrest.
