The government says the economy is on the path of a distinct recovery but some worrisome areas still remain. Inaugurating the economic editors conference in New Delhi on Tuesday, Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee said that the government is looking at steps to cut subsidies on fertilizers and oil with the aim of cutting non-Plan expenditure and containing the fiscal deficit. He said that the fiscal deficit would be rolled back to 5.5 per cent in the next financial year from 6.8 per cent in 2009-10.

Mr Mukherjee said that a team of officials will visit Switzerland on November 10 or 11 to hold talks with authorities there on amending a taxation treaty between the two countries.
