Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah said on Monday that economically self reliant Jammu and Kashmir progressing in peaceful and tranquil atmosphere is prime objective of his Government. While interacting with a group of IPS probationers, who called on him in Jammu, the Chief Minister said that the economic strength of Jammu and Kashmir lies in its power sector. He said that Government wants to create a strong foundation for economic self-sufficiency of the State by utilizing its rich potential for hydro energy maintaining that this is the only viable sector which can give considerable fillip to the economy of the State. Omar said that the State is in a position to generate 20,000 mega watts of power from State’s rivers and sell it to generate earnings for wide ranging development and welfare works.Earlier, chairing the 86th Board of Directors meeting of Jammu and Kashmir Projects Constructions Corporation , Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah underscored the importance of connectivity in the process of economic development of the State.
