Economic success will defeat terrorism: Rajpaksa

The Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajpaksa has assured that speedy resettlement of the war Displaced Persons is the highest priority of the government.<br/><br/>In his Keynote Address at the inauguration of the 8th Asian Cooperation Dialogue (ACD) Ministerial Meeting, in Colombo today the President said that success in defeating terrorism mainly came through their own efforts. <br/><br/>The theme of this year’s meeting is ‘Spirit of Asia: Global Economic Recovery and Development Prospects’. A large number of Foreign Ministers, Deputy and State Ministers of Foreign Affairs from the 31 member countries are attending this Meeting. India is being represented by the State Minister for External affairs Mrs. Preneet Kaur.<br/><br/>Representatives of more than 40 American companies, as well as about 30 companies from India and other parts of Asia held a meeting in Colombo with Sri Lankan and U.S. government officials to launch a ‘Public-Private Partnership’ to explore business opportunities in Sri Lanka.<br/> The conference coincided with the seventh round of talks regarding the Sri Lankan-U.S. Trade and Investment Framework Agreement( TIFA) which is scheduled to take place today.<br/> Sri Lankan officials are hoping that expanded U.S. investment will bolster the post-conflict reconciliation process among Sri Lanka ‘s population. They are particularly keen to steer investment to the North and East, where the LTTE conflict took its greatest toll.
