Economic stimulus to continue for time being: PM

Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh said that the economic stimulus packages announced in the wake last year's downturn will continue for the time being. Talking to reporters in Hyderabad, he said, the country is not operating at full capacity of the economy and until those capacity limitations are reached, inflationary consequences are likely to minimal. The Prime Minister was asked about the G-20 summit decision in Pittsburgh that resolved to continue with the global stimulus package announced in London earlier this year and whether India would continue with it. Replying to another question whether the recent floods in the South would have an effect on country's GDP growth, he said it was too early to say. Dr Singh, however, added that the growth this year is likely to be 6.2 to 6.5 per cent.
