In Manipur, normal life has been paralyzed following the economicblockade along the two National Highways of Manipur.The blockade was launched by the Sadar Hills District Demand Committee demanding immediate granting of revenue district status to Sadar Hillssince first of this month.The District Demand Committee has announced that the economic blockadewhich was to end today has been extended up to the 31st of this month.Several Imphal bound loaded trucks are stranded at various places along the Imphal-Dimapur national highway, the only lifeline for the land locked Manipur State. Prices of essential commodities particularly food items have gone up considerably. Potato is being sold at 30 rupees per kilogram at Imphal while onion is running out of stock. Long queues of vehicles are seen at many petrol pumps in Imphal while some petrol pumps have already been closed as there is no stock.
