ECI team visit Shillong to review poll preparedness for upcoming assembly elections

A team comprising of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Rajiv Kumar, Election Commissioners Anup Chandra Pandey and Arun Goel were on a two-day visit to Shillong to review poll preparedness for the upcoming assembly elections. The ECI team held a meeting with all political parties and later with district and State officials yesterday. Mr. Kumar told media persons that the Election Commission is committed to conduct a free, fair, peaceful and inducement-free manner State Assembly election.<br />'' <br />'' As per the Electoral Roll published on Jan 5, 2023, over 21.61 lakh electors are registered in the State with female electors outnumbering male electors. The Gender Ratio in the state is 1022. A total of 3,482 polling stations will be set up in 60 Assembly Constituencies while the average voter per Polling Station will be 620 and 50 percent of the polling stations will have webcasting facility.<br />'' <br />'' The CEC informed that the Commission is conscious of providing all basic facilities to voters for an enriching and pleasant voting experience. He also added that all arrangements will be made at the polling station for the convenience of senior citizens and PwD voters. Home voting facility will also be there for 80 years and PwD voters while pick and drop facility will be made available for them.<br />'' <br />'' Sixty  Model Polling Stations will be set up with a focus on eco-friendly /green booths while two polling stations per Assembly Constituency will be managed completely by women officials including security staff.<br />'' <br />'' The CEC further said that the Commission has policy of zero tolerance towards misuse of money power and muscle power and has directed all enforcement agencies for coordinated action and not to work in silos for inducement-free elections.<br />'' <br />''He later urged the citizens to take active participation in the upcoming election and also highlighted that any citizens can report any kind of electoral malpractice to the ECI through the cVigil App.
