Chief Election Commissioner S Y Quraishi says the Commission is firm in tackling the phenomenon of paid news and will take stricter action on culprits influencing the polls.Talking to reporters in New Delhi he said that media should refrain from sponsored articles that may distort the voters' awareness. He assured peaceful and fair Assembly elections in five states.Reacting to a question on eruption of pre poll violence in West Bengal, he said that elaborate security measures would be made and central election teams would visit the state in coming days to access the ground reality.Earlier, the Election Commission ruled out any possibility to postpone Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu as demanded by major political parties. He added that every issue was factored in before announcing the poll schedule.He also urged the media to spread awareness among the masses regarding their participation in voting.
