EC transfers 44 civil and police officials in UP in wake of LS polls

The Election Commission has transferred 44 officials including District Magistrates, District Police Chiefs and DIGs in the wake of Lok Sabha Polls in Uttar Pradesh.

The action came after the EC received complaints against them from different political parties in the state. In several districts, both District Magistrate and District Police Chiefs have been replaced.

These districts include Pratapgarh, Rampur, Banda, Chitrakoot, Bahraich, Etah, Sant Ravidas Nagar Bhadohi, Gonda and Mau. Our correspondent reports that the transfers have been made on the back of complaints by political parties against the officers believed to be hand in glove with the ruling Samajwadi Party. During its recent visit to the State capital Lucknow the Election commission had received several complaints about many district officials for their alleged proximity to the ruling Samajwadi Party.

The Commission has said that the officials replaced by the new ones would be posted on non-election and non-field duty. The new incumbents have been asked to report at their new postings by tomorrow.

Several new incumbents were shifted from different districts by the state government just before the announcement of the general elections from different districts.
