EC tough on expense monitoring in poll bound states

The Election Commission has asserted that it will come down heavily against the use of black money in elections.Chief Election Commissioner S Y Quraishi urged all political parties to exercise self restraint on election expenditure and strictly adhere to the new set of instructions. Addressing a workshop on election expenditure in New Delhi yesterday he drew the attention of political parties to the elaborate instructions on expenditure monitoring for the five states. The CEC said, the Commission believed in preventive rather than punitive measures and called upon the parties to cooperate. He underlined that this is possible only through education of party cadres at all levels, so that violations are minimized. The Election Commission held a one day workshop on Election Expenditure Monitoring, with representatives of all political parties of Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Goa and Manipur, where general elections are due. It was attended by 58 representatives of various national and state parties. Election Commissioners V.S. Sampath and H. S. Brahma also addressed the workshop.
