The Election Commission will make use of some new IT based techniques in the assembly elections in five states to make the election process more transparent and fool-proof. AIR correspondent quoting state election officials reports that the use of mobile phones and SMS will help the speedy announcement of trends and results during voting and counting of votes.

The election commission has already launched voters' awareness campaign using modern IT tools. During the revision of voters’ list, the commission has collected the mobile numbers of voters. The commission has also made arrangement of live streaming of poll process in selected constituencies of the state with the help National Informatics Centre.

The NIC sources said that officials of election commission will now be able to see direct web-cast of polling from selected booths in real time. The commission has also made arrangements to upload polling trend with the help of SMS on internet. At every hour, the polling officers will send SMS regarding poll percentage of each booth.

This will be automatically uploaded on the website. The elections in the country involve millions of people casting their vote simultaneously. Modern techniques will make the process easier and more transparent.
