The Election Commission has said it will take a view on Monday on the issuance of new bank licences by the Reserve Bank. Talking to reporters in New Delhi, Election Commissioner H S Brahma said RBI has already submitted clarifications in this regard sought by the Commission. Bimal Jalan panel, which scrutinised applications for new bank licences, had submitted its report along with shortlisted entities to the RBI last month. But soon after the model code of conduct came into force with the announcement of general election earlier this month. Guidelines for setting up new private banks were issued in February 2013.
