EC to hold all future elections using EVMs with VVPAT

The Election Commission has said, it will hold all future elections using Electronic Voting Machines with Voter-verifiable paper audit trail (VVPAT). Chief Election Commissioner Nasim Zaidi told this to reporters after holding an all-party meeting in New Delhi yesterday. <br/><br/><br/>The meeting was convened to discuss the issues relating to the reliability of EVMs and VVPATs and electoral reforms. The Chief Election Commissioner said, although the use of VVPAT with EVMs will ensure total credibility and transparency and put to rest all controversy, the Commission will also hold a challenge. <br/><br/><br/>He said, the poll panel will offer an opportunity to all political parties to prove that EVMs used in the recently held polls were tampered with or can be tampered. The Commission, however, did not give any date for the challenge. Mr Zaidi said, political parties have been assured that their concerns regarding EVMs would be addressed through the forthcoming challenge and further necessary action.<br/><br/>Seven National political parties and 35 State parties attended the meeting.<br/>BJP leader Bhupender Yadav said, the parties expressed their views that VVPATs will ensure transparency in the elections. He said, his party has also suggested to frame a law on making bribery in elections a congnisable offence.<br/>Aam Aadmi Party leader Manish Sisodia welcomed the poll panel's decision of holding an open challenge on EVMs.<br/>
