The Chief electoral officer of Tamil Nadu Mr. Praveen Kumar has said that the election commission is stepping up security measures for ten thousand polling booths in the state. Speaking to newspersons in Chennai, the CEO said that large amount of cash and non cash items are being seized through out the State. AIR correspondent reports, in Ramanathapuram forty laks rupees were seized from a tea shop on Monday. In Pudukottai Rs. 8 lakh was seized from Mr.Pon Ramalingam,a panchayat President. In Madurai West 19 and a half lakh rupees were seized and in Trichy 5 crore rupees which was kept in a private bus was also seized Tuesday early morning at 2 00 am. Replying to a query on the 49 ‘0’, Mr Kumar said that necessary instructions have been issued to the polling officers to carry out the exercise. He said that the electronic voting machines are kept ready and will be tested in front of the candidates through a mock poll in another two days. When asked about impersonation, Mr.Praveen Kumar said that voters can still cast their mandate in the concerned register which would be available at the polling booths. He said that the impersonators would be given one year imprisonment.
