Election Commission has seized about 43 crore rupees in cash and kind till today in the poll-bound states of Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and Assam. This is part of the drive by the Commission to unearth unaccounted money being used in polls. Among the three states, 28 crore 39 lakh rupees have been recovered from Tamil Naidu. The commission seized about five crore from West bengal and about four crore rupees from Assam. The Income Tax department has formed around 70 teams to monitor movement of hard cash in the poll-bound states. The Commission has formed flying squads for carrying out searches on vehicles and premises in a bid to prevent the use of money power in the polls.
