EC scraps assembly polls notification in Aravkurichi & Tanjavur in Tamil Nadu

The Election Commission has decided to revoke the notification and conduct polls afresh in due course of time in two Assembly Constituencies of Tamil Nadu following evidence of money being used to influence voters.<br/><br/>Earlier, the Commission had on two occasions postponed the polls for the Aravkurichi and Tanjavur constituencies following reports of large scale distribution of money and gifts to voters by candidates and political parties.<br/><br/>Initially, the polls in these two Assembly seats were postponed from 16th of May to 23rd of May.<br/><br/>But on 21st of May, the Commission decided to once again postpone the polls to June 13th.<br/><br/>Considering reports of observers and representations of contesting candidates, the Commission on Saturday said, the election process in the two constituencies is seriously vitiated and can not be allowed to proceed and ought to be rescinded so that fresh elections may be conducted when the atmosphere becomes conducive.<br/><br/>It said, the revised schedule for these two Assembly Constituencies will be recommended in due course of time.
