The Election Commission has again ruled out the possibility of advancing Assembly elections in West Bengal. Chief Election Commissioner S Y Qureshi told newsmen in Kolkata that the Assembly polls in West Bengal were due in June next year and the commission could intervene in the issue only six months before it. He reviewed the ongoing revision of electoral rolls at a high level meeting. Referring to the complaints lodged by different political parties about 56 lakh new applications for enrolment in voters lists, Qureshi said it was quiet natural in an election year as people’s enthusiasm is high this time.
