EC rejects accusations of bias; says, it is not afraid of any party or individual

Election Commission has rejected BJP's accusations of bias and said the Commission deplores attempts to cast aspersions on a constitutional body. Addressing a press conference in New Delhi, Chief Election Commissioner V S Sampath has made it clear that the poll body is not afraid of anyone, any political party or any entity in doing its job.

Defending Varanasi District Magistrate and Returning Officer Pranjal Yadav, Sampath said that the permission was denied to hold a rally by BJP leader Narendra Modi on basis of professional advice.

He clarified that when the security and suitability issues are involved, the Election Commission naturally will go by the professional advice taken at the district level.He also ruled out his removal as demanded by the BJP.

On Rahul Gandhi visiting EVM enclosure in Amethi on the day of polling, Sampath said, factual report has been sought from the Returning Officer and action will be taken only after examining it.
