Chief Election Commissioner of India Syed Nasim Ahmed Zaidi today said that Election Commission has proposed two-years imprisonment for candidates contesting in electionswho either conceal facts or provide false information in the affidavits while filing nominations. Inaugurating a two-day National Conference on Electoral and Political Reforms organized by Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) in Hyderabad, he said Section 29-b of the Representation of Peoples' Act needs to be amended to check funding of political parties through Electoral Trust. Paid news should be considered as electoral offence and the candidates will be punished with two-year imprisonment, he added. Referring to linking of Adhar Number with the Voter Identity Cards, he said 23 out of total 85 crore voters in the country have already been covered.<br/><br/>Appreciating the services of Voluntary Organizations in the country, he said Bihar Assembly Election was conducted without any violence. He urged people to give suggestions and advise to make NOTA more meaningful.
